Orkla invests EUR 53,000 in biscuit production plant

Chocolate and confectioneries production company Orkla Confectionery & Snacks Latvija has invested more than EUR 53,000 in modernization of a biscuit and waffle production plant located on Artilērijas Street. Additional funding has allowed the company to install a powder sugar dosing pot.

The new equipment has already been integrated in the existing system, providing the ability to precisely sprinkle a carefully measured amount of sugar over biscuits using a remote. In the future, the new equipment will be used for different production processes. There are plans to relocate production to the biscuit and waffle plant in Ādaži, BNN was told by the company.

«By installing a new powder sugar sprinkling pot at the biscuit and waffle plant, we have improved the efficiency of the production process and work conditions for the team working there. Until now, workers had to do it manually. Now, however, we have automated the sugar dosing and sprinkling process. Doing so has helped us resolve the problem of the shortage of workers and minimize potential production process risks associated with sugar,» says Orkla Confectionery & Snacks Latvija chairman Toms Didrihsons.

Orkla Confectionery & Snacks Latvija’s parent company Orkla has decided to build a new production plant in Latvia next to the new Laima production plant in Ādaži. It will specialize in biscuit and waffle production. It will be the largest such production plant in Baltic States and Scandinavia. This will be the largest investment in Latvia’s food production industry in years. It will also create around 200 new jobs. It is planned that the new production plant will start working at the end of 2022.
